班台位于霹雳州曼绒县,是一个民风淳朴、恬静悠闲的小渔村,这里孕育着一所华文独立中学---育青中学。1960年代班台小镇未有中学,在地孩子小学毕业后,只有少部分孩子有能力到外坡念中学,故先贤几经努力地欲筹办一所国民型中学,但不获教育局批准,因此才决定改变计划,创办独立中学。育青中学占地20英亩,现有校用地13英亩,创立于1962年,取校名为“育青”,意指培育青年。育青中学是霹雳州,也是西马最后成立的一所华文独立中学,刚跨过一甲子岁月。育青中学于1962年迎来第一批139名学生,租借马华公会为临时校舍,为期一年,1963年才迁入现有校址上课。随着学生人数的增加,在已故第一任董事长蔡尤搿的带领下,董事会在现校址大兴土木,完成所有的软硬体设备。学生逐年增加,校务蓬勃发展,后因教育法令的改变,到了1969年年底,学生仅剩数十名,学校濒临关闭。1973年霹雳独中复兴运动,终使独中浴火重生,学生人数开始回弹,校务稳健发展,到了1984年学生人数创高峰,共457名。随后几年,学生人数又往下滑落,到了2011年全校学生仅192名,育青中学成了微型独中。后在现任董事长郑孝川的带领下,进行教学设备的提升,终在2016年以302名学生,从微型独中晋升为小型独中。育青中学没有学生宿舍,大部分的学生皆来自班台五区,即班台、双礼佛、宋溪峇都、昔加里、莫珍歪。目前全校学生人数为378名,教师30名,职员员工7名。学制为六年制,即初中三年及高中三年,以统考为主。学生考取高中统考文凭后,可申请进入本地私立大专院校就读,或前往国外各大专院校深造。学生亦可自行报考马来西亚教育文凭(SPM)。...
