About Patience Healthcare Navigator

The goal of the Patience Healthcare Navigator is to empower the average American with knowledge and tools to help them navigate the confusing and expensive healthcare system in the USA. Our app provides education about the health insurance system, how to avoid out-of-network/surprise medical bills, what to do if you receive a surprise bill, and more. Furthermore, the app provides tools such as an in-network hospital finder, and a hospital visit tracker with note-taking.

To accomplish these goals, we have implemented the following features:

*Guidelines: On the Guidelines page, you start by selecting the option that best describes your situation (e.g. "I'm at the hospital now," "I recently visited the hospital," etc.). You can then read organized information within this section about things you can do before, during and after your hospital visit to avoid surprise bills and manage your healthcare. We are working on adding video summaries to each of the Guidelines sections for ease of use and accessibility.

*Find In-Network Hospitals: this feature allows you to both locate in-network hospitals near you, and determine whether a hospital you are currently at is in-network with your insurance provider or not. In the future, we plan to add a feature that allows searching for a specific hospital by name and verifying if it is in-network or out-of-network.

*Visit Timeline: The Visits Timeline page allows you to take detailed, timestamped notes organized by each healthcare visit, for yourself or for a family member in order to track and manage your health information, and more effectively dispute medical bills.
