We do have music notation as an intermediary. Yet, much like our usual spoken language, we often don't write down what we speak or hear.

The latter one is for those times when you can't actually sing out loud (in transport etc) but be advised - singing the notes yourself is much much more effective and a great headstart in learning notation on the instrument or playing any tune by ear without notes needed.
