This app converts sets of GPS coordinates into a .GPX file and is very useful in allowing the user to plan an adventurous journey. This type of file is important as it can be uploaded onto apps (eg. GPX viewer) or hand held GPS devices (eg. the eTrex10) that do not rely on the data connections that are absent in these wilderness locations. Most modern smartphones have connection to GPS satellites and thus can be used as backup navigation devices. The .GPX file that our app generates can also be uploaded directly to a handheld GPS device.
Users can find locations in wilderness areas using google maps and plan an adventurous journey to the locations. Right-clicking on a desired destination on Google maps will generate a set of GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude), which can then be entered into the app. Similarly, a provider of adventurous journeys might venture out with a hand held GPS device to obtain coordinates, which may also be entered into the app to produce a .GPX file. The app is thus very useful for people who do not have handheld GPS devices, but wish to utilise their smartphone as a GPS device even absent of data connections.
