It is a novel written by Kuwaiti writer Saud Al-Sanousi, in which he tells the story of Issa, who is the son of a Filipino woman and a Gulf father, the warm, caring father from an aristocratic family who married a Filipino maid in a common-law marriage. When his mother learned of the common-law marriage, she did not accept it and deported the mother and her child to the Philippines, to live. The child is in the Philippines, in the ruins of memory, and his mother tells him stories about his father and Kuwait, and her sister curses men, then Issa’s mother appears and tells her, “Except Rashid.”
