Japan IC Card Reader is a simple, free utility for anyone who uses a Japanese IC card on JR, the metro, private rail, or buses.

WHAT YOU SEE WHEN YOU TAP A CARD

• The last ~20 transactions stored on your card
• Each entry shows the date, the entry and exit stations, the line/operator, the fare paid, and the running balance after the transaction
• For your most recent train ride, the entry and exit times are also shown
• Vending-machine purchases, IC charges, and ticket-office adjustments are clearly labelled

HOW TO USE
1. Open the app.
2. Hold the back of your phone against your IC card.
3. Done — your balance and recent activity appear instantly.

The app keeps listening, so the next card you tap reads automatically. You don't have to press any button.

REQUIREMENTS
This app reads Japanese FeliCa transit cards. Your phone needs FeliCa hardware to read them. Most phones sold in Japan support FeliCa out of the box (Sony Xperia, Sharp AQUOS, certain Samsung and Pixel models). Some Pixel models sold outside Japan also include the FeliCa chip but it is region-locked off — you will need to enable it before the app can read your card.

PRIVACY
This app does not store, transmit, or share your card data with anyone. Card information is read directly from your card into the app and shown on screen, then discarded as soon as you close the app. There is no account, no login, and no analytics. The app shows a single banner ad provided by Google AdMob — see the privacy policy for details.

LIMITATIONS
• Station names rely on Metrodroid's open community-maintained station database; a small number of regional buses and minor private operators may show as numeric codes instead of names.
• Train fare history on the card itself does not include time-of-day for older rides; the app recovers entry and exit times for your most recent journey by cross-referencing the card's tap log.
• The card stores at most ~20 transactions; older history rolls off as you use the card.
