About this app

Ornithopedia Europe offers a searchable list of all 1144 birds in the Western Palearctic (greater European area) in 17 languages.

The App comes with over 3200 pictures, 29.000 streaming sound files and 2500 streaming Youtube videos and much more. You can also include your own content (pictures or sounds) seamlessly. Additional features include a search by visual characteristics of a bird and an Ornitho-Trainer, for training to recognize bird features of common birds. Currently in testing is also a feature for making lists.
The Western Palearctic is one of the eight ecozones (a region that shares similar plant and wildlife) of the world. It centers and includes all of Europe with nearby parts of western Asia and northern parts of Africa.

You also have the possibility to get more content by downloading free modules. The modules currently available are:
- High quality version of all 3200 pictures (+ 161 MB-440 MB, depending on the module chosen)
- 4 Different Sound modules, with between 600 and 3000 Sound files (+ 130 MB-1.1 GB, depending on the module chosen)
- Offline Wikipedia article for all birds (+ 3-50 MB each, depending on the language selected)

This field guide / hobby ornithology / educational birding App was published in August of 2013.
Everything is for free and all resources used are creative commons or equally free licensed and attributed as well as possible.
Streaming content obviously needs an internet connection to work, if you don't want those features you can disable them.

Feedback of any kind is welcome. Wishes of features to be added or annoying quirks you want fixed, just drop me a mail and I see if there is something that can be done.

Cheers and have fun with the App.

[Not a native English speaker?]
The app has some elements of the graphical user interface and all of the bird names translated according to the IOC World bird list 4.1 into 19 languages. But there is still some to be done.
If you are a native speaker of one of those that miss some translation (for buttons, text etc.) and want to contribute, give comments or improve the grammar feel free to contact me per mail. Cheers!

A big thanks to the translators:
- French translated by Sandra Velitchko
- Russian translated by Leonid Velitchko and Tatyana Korzhitskaya
- German / English translated by Benjamin
- Spanish translated by Jesus Alvarez
- Dutch translated by Helen
- Italian by Paolo Px4

My go-to app for birding. Nothing better and still works on my version of android (4.3) unlike a lot of apps. However, my country, Greece, is not in the list of countries 😳

I just wanted something to browse through.. if I have to sort through and add things manually and generally waste time adding all the content, I might as well just browse the internet.
