Perlego: Your online library

The selection of readings for the monthly price is amazing. However, the UX of the reader itself can be incredibly frustrating. The main issues I have are: 1. Clicking on pages in the index takes me to the book chapter rather than the page referenced in the index. 2. Going to a new page typically takes the app a while to load and can be distracting. Sometimes even making a slight movement on the screen makes the page reload. 3. There is no function for word searching on the app.

Can't fault the content you get for the fee. Amazing! My only disappointment (and it is a big one, hence 3 stars) is that read aloud isn't available in the app. So I load books in my phone's Web browser to listen on my phone, but i find this is glitchy and frequently stops, needing me to get my phone out to restart it, which is annoying because I mostly want to listen whilst walking. Adding read-aloud to the app would give a tighter user experience in my opinion.

The UI is choppy. PDF viewing is acceptable, but the text is often formatted clumsily, with sentences overlapping. The annotation feature needs improvement; I cannot always locate the highlighted passage in the book by clicking on it. I cannot see which page out of the entire book my annotations belong to. I cannot track my progress through the text as a whole via page numbers. This makes citation laborious. The service is promising, but it falls short of offering serious academic support.
