About this app

A geologist once said that Oman is one big wonderful outdoor geological Museum with unique geological values. It is the only country in the world composed mostly of oceanic crust and rocks that originated from the mantle - deep below the earth's surface. In addition, evidence can be seen of continental drift and geological processes that have dominated the earth's surface for many millions of years.

The Oman Geoheritage Guide is your personal guide to the wonders of geology in Oman. The app is providing information to single points of interest, as well as geological tours.

The Geoheritage Guide

The Sultanate of Oman displays an outstanding array of Geoheritage phenomena, many of which are world class. These features play an important role in promoting sustainable appreciation of geology and landforms as well as providing a dramatic environment for other tourism experiences. With support of the Oman Geoheritage Guide you can visit these geological phenomena and you can learn more about Oman's diverse landscapes, nature and culture.

In addition to the general Geotourism Guide the app is providing interesting geological tours, which can be done as half day or day trips in and around the capital Muscat. These tours include the Wadi Al Mayh Tour, the Bandar Al Khiran Tour, the Jabal Al Aswad & Wadi Mijlas Tour, the Bawshar & Al Khawd tour and the Muttrah Geotrek.

The region of Al Huqf and the Al Hajar Mountains have a high concentration of geological attractions. You can download dedicated packages for this regions to start your unique Geotourism experience in Oman.

Note: Continued use of location services running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Note: When you install content packages some video and sound data is downloaded. It is recommended to load these data via a wireless connection.

Note: This app is replacing the former "Muscat Geotourism Guide" application.
