About this app

Navaratri also spelled Navratri or Navarathri, is a nine nights (and ten days) Hindu festival, celebrated in the autumn every year. The festival is celebrated in the bright half of the Hindu calendar month Ashvin, which typically falls in the Gregorian months of September and October. Navratri marks the beginning of the nine-day festival devoted to goddess Durga. It is believed that during the course of these nine days, goddess Durga visits our home in her nine forms. The nine-day long festival comprises of fasting, daily pujas and participation in events. While the festival comes every autumn, it also commemorates Lord Rama’s victory of killing Ravana.

Most devotees grow ‘khetri‘ or barley seeds during navratri. for this clean mud is collected from an auspicious or clean place. add this mud in an earthen pot. clean and wash the barley to remove any impurities or insects. soak the barley for 20-30 minutes. then put these barley or ‘jau’ on the top of mud. make a thin layer of mud on top of barley, so as to cover it. don’t put too much mud otherwise barley will not grow and put just enough water to soak the barley. one red color string (mauli) of mata rani (goddess) is tied to khetri pot. Fasting in navratri is one of the best rituals of navratri festival, which is performed by the devotees till nine auspicious days. Some devotees keep fasting only on the first day of navratri and on the eighth day of navratri (Ashtami) while some devotees keep fast continuously until nine days of navratri and break the fast after the final day of Navratri.
