Szentjakab – Idegenvezető

The Roman Garden of the Benedictine Abbey of Szentjakab is the most important monument of national importance in the Kaposvár region. After the restoration work carried out in 2023, the ruins of the former monastery, located in a beautiful natural environment, in a wooded park area, can be visited again. The walls and valuable stone carvings of the abbey church, which are several meters high in some places, are among the most important monuments of our 11th century architecture.
The tour starts from the parking lot at the foot of the abbey hill to the entrance of the ruin garden, and then leads to the most important points of the building complex. We get to know the history of the monastery, its most important buildings, and its contemporary environment. 3D reconstructions help to imagine the medieval form of the monastery.
