About this app

The EESZT mobile application is the official application for producing and querying health documents and Covid certificates in Hungary. It is operated by the Ministry of the Interior (BM) on behalf of the Government of Hungary.

The EU digital Covid certificate is a digitally accessible document that allows you to travel within the 27 member states of the European Union without epidemiological restrictions - such as quarantine.

The application provides a simple and convenient solution for all citizens with a TAJ number and Customer Portal to display the Hungarian vaccination certificate, the EU vaccination certificate, the EU test certificate and the EU medical certificate using their mobile device in the entire territory of the European Union.
The application, provided free of charge by the Electronic Health Services Area, verifies the protection of the data subject after identifying the data subject - based on the health data stored in the EESZT.
The following certificates can be displayed in the application:

• Hungarian vaccination certificate
• EU vaccination certificate
• EU test certificate
• EU medical certificate

The data content appearing in each ID card has been created in accordance with the applicable legislation. Each ID has a QR code, which can be checked with the EESZT Covid Control application. The verification applications of individual member states are also suitable for checking EU ID cards. The application can be used with customer portal login data. For the first time, the application asks for the user's social security number for security reasons.

Later, it is possible to enable simplified entry. With the help of the simplified login, it is possible to display the IDs that have already been downloaded - even without an Internet connection.

Didn't know what to do during registration, I needed a third party explanation to know which EESZT website to start on. That is bad. But once there, everything was self evident and registration had no issues. However, needing 2 devices for a registration is unseen of, unnecessary, idiotic, and I understand how most people couldn't make it work. The app is of very poor programming, and does the same thing as photographing your card...

There should be some kind of a warning / check if you have a default browser selected for opening web pages. I'm using multiple browsers, so I didn't and hence I was unable to login and there weren't any kind of error messages or tips. Once I have selected a default application for opening URLs (chrome!) then I was able to login through Ügyfélkapu authentication. Otherwise it's working perfectly fine, very good progress since the first available version. Great experience.

The engineering of the app is awful. It uses a randomized keypad for your pin, which violates many accessibility requirements. It requires a fixed 6 pin registration, which reduces entropy a lot, not secure. It's just an overengineered client for a simple webrequest, that shows the same webrequest in a QR format, to be validated by another proprietary app. It also displays the result of the webrequest. It would have been simpler to just store the QR from the card, and display it for scanning.
