About this app

CBT-i Coach is for people who are engaged in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia with a health provider, or who have experienced symptoms of insomnia and would like to improve their sleep habits. The app will guide you through the process of learning about sleep, developing positive sleep routines, and improving your sleep environment. It provides a structured program that teaches strategies proven to improve sleep and help alleviate symptoms of insomnia.

CBT-i Coach is intended to augment face-to-face care with a healthcare professional. It can be used on its own, but it is not intended to replace therapy for those who need it.

CBT-i Coach is based on the therapy manual, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia in Veterans, by Rachel Manber, Ph.D., Leah Friedman, Ph.D., Colleen Carney, Ph.D., Jack Edinger, Ph.D., Dana Epstein, Ph.D., Patricia Haynes, Ph.D., Wilfred Pigeon, Ph.D. and Allison Siebern, Ph.D. CBT-i has been shown to be efficacious for insomnia for both Veterans and civilians.

CBT-i Coach was a collaborative effort between VA’s National Center for PTSD, Stanford School of Medicine, and DoD’s National Center for Telehealth and Technology.

This app is awesome. Originally designed for veterans (I think), but very much usable for anyone that struggles with insomnia. I've been battling it for the past 2 years, and after using it for just over a month, this has really helped me feel better about my sleep. Ironically, one of my genuine worries is to not be able to use this app one day! Really grateful for this :)

Edit and change from 2 to 4 stars. The response fixed the issue. I will share it with my doctor so they can pass it along to other patients. Previous review: I'm using this app under the supervision of my doctor. Obviously, I know I have issues with sleep. I can't use most of the features because my sleep is "poor," and I need to talk to my Dr. My Doc says there's no way to make it stop doing that.

Thank you for reaching out! There is a way to indicate in the app that you are working with a provider, which will allow for some flexibility in your sleep prescription--go to the corner menu, and then select Settings. There, you can toggle on “Working with a CBT-I Provider.” Please feel free to contact us directly at mobilementalhealth@va.gov.

The premise is failed. You can't accurately record when you fall asleep, b/c you're asleep. Same for how long you're up when you awake at night, plus recording everything in the middle of the night would cause you to be awake more. And when you do have real data, like from a Fitbit, there is no way to enter hours slept, hours awake, num times awake, etc. The app is frustrating and useless.
