About this app

Hollywood is a borough of Los Angeles, California, United States. It is located northwest of the city center. Due to the concentration of movie studios and movie stars in this region, it has become synonymous with the American movie industry and has been mentioned frequently.

The first films made in the USA were filmed around New York City. Towards 1900, the first films began to be shot in California. California was chosen because it had better weather and open spaces. Another reason was to avoid paying the famous inventor Thomas Edison for his patents on cinema. Thomas Edison held many patent rights in the field of motion pictures. It was impossible not to pay Edison's lawyers in the New York area. Edison's lawyers had little influence in California, and it was possible, if necessary, to stay out of sight in Mexico for a while, avoiding the police because of Hollywood's proximity to the Mexican border.

Los Angeles can be considered the capital of the film industry in the United States. Mountains, plains, and low land prices made Hollywood an ideal property for setting up movie studios.

Hollywood movie studios, 1922 Director D. W. Griffith is considered the first person to make a feature film in Hollywood. His 17-minute short film In Old California (1910) was shot for the Biograph Company. While Hollywood had banned movie theaters before it was annexed that year—which had none—Los Angeles was not included in such a restriction.

Nestor Film Company, the first studio in Hollywood, opened its doors to the world of cinema by being established in a roadhouse at 6121 Sunset Boulevard (Gower's corner) in October 1911 by the New Jersey-based Centaur Film Company. The four major film companies – Paramount, Warner Bros. He had studios in Hollywood, including several smaller companies and rental studios - RKO and Columbia. In the 1920s, Hollywood was considered the fifth-largest industry in the country. By the 1930s, Hollywood studios were fully vertically integrated because these companies monopolized production, distribution, and exhibition, and Hollywood was capable of producing close to six hundred films a year.
