Bartolo Longo was an Italian who grew up in the Catholic faith, but upon going to university he had been infected by the Enlightenment and many other extremely anti-clerical and anti-Catholic attitudes. Bartolo Longo was a law student and had many friends who held these anti-Catholic beliefs and, in addition, even delved into the occult sciences.

One day, as he was walking through the very depressing city of Pompeii and seeing the poor and downcast people who had a complete lack of knowledge of the Catholic faith despite being Catholic, he was suddenly tempted to despair, for one can imagine that he remembered your past life and your sins. (that his good priest had told him never to look back). However, he was tempted by the devil to the sin of despair and even suicide! However, at that moment, he heard the words of his priest friend:

"If you are looking for salvation, spread the Rosary. It is Mary's promise: whoever spreads the Rosary will be saved."
