Download the University of Jyväskylä's Research for JYU Mobile application to your smartphone, record birdsong and make bird observations - with the help of the supercomputer's artificial intelligence, you can easily identify different species of birds and at the same time help carry out cutting-edge research.

With this application, you have the opportunity to safely participate in various top research projects as a citizen scientist and help in the production of new research information. In the spring of 2023, the application will focus on tracking migratory birds, but in the future there will be several research projects.

The University of Jyväskylä respects an individual's personal data. We do not transmit the user's personal data outside the phone.

In the spring monitoring of birds, you have the option of recording short or long (interval) recordings. The recording and the user's location (exact or approximate) are transmitted along with the recording to the server, which identifies bird species from the recording. You get back information about the identified species. In addition, the observation is displayed anonymously on Yle's website. The app also keeps track of the bird species you identify and allows you to earn virtual prizes that you can share on social media. This also enables playful competition. Invite your friends too!

We are constantly developing the application. You can give feedback about the app's operation via the app store. Our goal is to make the application as user-friendly as possible.
