The Water Code of the Russian Federation (VK RF) is a codified normative legal act, which is the main document regulating water relations in Russia.
The Water Code of the Russian Federation was adopted by the State Duma on April 12, 2006, approved by the Federation Council on May 26, 2006 and signed by the President of the Russian Federation on June 3, 2006, entered into force on January 1, 2007 (according to Federal Law No. 73-FZ dated June 3, 2006 "On the introduction of the Water Code of the Russian Federation ").
From the date of the entry into force of the Water Code of the Russian Federation, the Water Code of the Russian Federation of November 16, 1995, No. 167-FZ, was declared invalid, and the legislative acts of the USSR, containing norms regulating water relations, were recognized as invalid on the territory of the Russian Federation.
According to article 2 of the Water Code, water legislation consists of the code, other federal laws and laws of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation adopted in accordance with them.
