About this app

Do you know what the connection between panties and vegetables is?

Underpants can be used to assess how active the floor life is. The more rotten the underpants, the more active the soil life, the healthier the soil, the better the vegetables grow.
At least that's what we think. We'll test whether it's really true, together with you, in the civil science project “Evidence of Underpants”.

Do you have a garden, field, forest, lawn, meadow or any other piece of earth?

Order a test set at beweisstueck-unterhose.ch and bury two organic cotton underpants on your property in spring 2021! After a month you dig out the first pair of underpants, take a photo of them and upload the picture to our online project platform. After two months you do the same with the second pair of underpants.
With a handful of earth you send both items of laundry to the laboratory, where the activity of the soil life is determined based on the degree of degradation of the underpants and the soil provided. A participatory approach is also chosen for this analysis process and you can work on the evaluation if you have the time and inclination.
During the entire duration of the project, the participants can exchange ideas in the forum on our website. The most interesting results are published there, discussions are held, media reports are uploaded and underpants pictures are compared. The interactive map of the app shows where underpants were buried in Switzerland and what the underpants look like after they have been excavated. In this way we generate an overview of the soil activity on site, whereby the participants receive tips on how they can improve the quality of their soil sustainably and ecologically.
