Canto Do Jaó Preta 24 Horas - Its scientific name means: do (Greek) kruptus = hidden, occult; and oura = tail; crypturellus = diminutive of crypturus; and from (Latin) undulatus = with waves, wavy, wave. ⇒ Small wavy or small Crypturus (bird) with waves and hidden tail. Inhabits the lowland and gallery woods, capoeira, dry and sparse woods and cerrado. They also live in fields and forests throughout South America. Although they can fly, they lack the bony keel of the breast bone that makes continuous flight possible. All tinamids use their wings as a last resort of escape, making a short flight, interspersed with glides in grassland species.
