If the gates of the botanical garden are closed in the evening, access to the garden restaurant is via the parking lot Am Botanischen Garten 1a, 50735 Cologne (Riehl).
The story behind the name Dank Augusta: Augusta, wife of the Prussian emperor Wilhelm I, took over the patronage in 1863 for the construction and maintenance of the Cologne Botanical Garden. One thing was particularly important to the self-confident, liberal-minded empress and queen at the time: the flora should be open to all citizens, regardless of their origin.
What sounds so natural today was a bold, resolute expression of freedom and democracy at the time.
We like that and inspired the name: thanks to Augusta we are here. Not far away in the flora is a bust of Augusta. Some have been saying a little smile about their mouths for some time. We think she would have liked it.
