Regarding the tradition of the celebration, it was born for the first time in the United States by the gratitude of a daughter towards her father, who was a veteran of the American civil war. The young woman's mother died giving birth to her sixth child, and the father cared for and educated all the children without any help and always giving all the love and affection in the world.

The creator, Sonora Smart, thought about celebrating Father's Day after listening to a sermon on Mother's Day in 1909. The day she proposed was June 5, her father's birthday, but the date did not prosper.

However, the idea of ​​instituting one day a year for "Father's Day" was accepted and in 1924 President Coolidge supported the idea of ​​establishing a national day, and in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a proclamation declaring the third Sunday in June as Father's Day in the United States.

The celebration quickly spread as a way to honor parents and recognize their role in the upbringing and education of their children.

Regardless of the date of its celebration, the important thing about this date is that it aims to pay tribute to parents. A day in which it is important that we remind them how much we love them, how much they have meant and mean to us, and how important their presence is in the development and education of children.

Although each family celebrates it in their own way, in Spain it is very common for meals to be made on Father's Day or the days close to that date. It is common for families to get together to celebrate this date and for the little ones in the house to give gifts to their parents.
Specifically, on Father's Day, families gather around parents, grandparents or stepparents to give them a gift. In many Spanish homes, Father's Day is the only day of the year when children prepare breakfast for Dad (who pretends to be asleep until everything is ready) and take it to bed. In general, the European Catholic tradition commemorates it on March 19, the day of Saint Joseph, adoptive father of Jesus.
However, several European countries (such as France or the United Kingdom) and the majority of Ibero-American countries, adopted the American date, which is why they currently celebrate Father's Day on the third Sunday in June. And taking as an example of man and life to Saint Joseph, they leave for March 19 the celebration of Men's Day, which is celebrated internationally on November 19.
