Babies this age begin smiling regularly at mom and dad, but may need some time to warm up to less familiar people, like grandparents. Babies typically begin to coo around six to eight weeks of age. But cooing, like all milestones, can vary from baby to baby. If your little one isn't cooing right at six weeks, don't worry. All babies develop on their own schedule

But according to Levine, all those strange noises are caused by baby's nasal passages being pretty narrow in the newborn stage, leading the mucus that gets trapped in there to create some added sound effects.


The cause of newborn grunting
When your baby grunts, it usually means they're learning how to have a bowel movement. They haven't yet figured out how to relax the pelvic floor while also using abdominal pressure to move stool and gas through their system
