God has a role for those men who knew why they were created, and for what they were found; Their hearts were not attached to the world, so God Almighty said in them: {Among the believers are men who have been true to what they promised God, and among them is he who fulfilled his love, and among them is he who waits, and they have not changed}[3:2].
Those who depend on the world and love its people, and renounce the hereafter and its survival, those are their love, hostility, and loyalty for the sake of the world, its people, its positions, its adornment and its mortal enjoyment. They act as if they were created for survival and eternity in this world, even though God Almighty says: أُجُورَكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فَمَن زُحْزِحَ عَنِ النَّارِ وَأُدْخِلَ الْجَنَّةَ فَقَدْ فَازَ وَما الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا إِلاَّ مَتَاعُ الْغُرُورِ } [آل عمران:185]، ويقول تعالى: {وَمَا جَعَلْنَا لِبَشَرٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ الْخُلْدَ أَفَإِن مِّتَّ فَهُمُ الْخَالِدُونَ (34) كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ وَنَبْلُوكُم بِالشَّرِّ وَالْخَيْرِ فِتْنَةً And to Us you will be returned} [Prophets: 34-35].

- On the authority of Muhammad bin Suqa, he said: There are two things, if we were not punished except by them, we would have deserved the punishment of God by them: one of us increases something from this world, so he rejoices with joy what God knows that he rejoiced in something that ever increased him in his religion, and something decreases from the world, so he grieves for him as long as God knows that he is grieving over something He never lacked in his religion.

Al-Fudayl said: The servant's fear of God is commensurate with his knowledge of God and his renunciation of this world according to his desire for the Hereafter.

- Abu Darda’ said: The soul of the son of Adam is still young in love with the world and the dirham, even if they meet, his two necks are old, except for those whose hearts God has tested for the Hereafter, and they are few.

- Abu Hazem said: The burdens of this world and the supplies of the Hereafter have intensified. As for the supplies of the Hereafter, you will not find helpers for it.

- Ali bin Abi Talib, may God be pleased with him, used to say in his supplication: O God, you have made the world a temptation and a calamity, so make my fortune from all of it, my portion from its division, and my longing from its power.

- A man from the Arabs looked at his brother and his eagerness for the world, and he said: O my brother, you are a seeker and he is wanted.

- Ibn al-Sammak came to Harun and said: He preached to me and briefed him. He said: What amazes, O Commander of the Faithful, what we are in, how it overwhelmed us, and what we become to, how we neglected it.

- A man from the Arabs preached to his son, and he said: O my son, the world strives against those who seek it and strive with it, so flee from it before it is damaged in it.

- Ibn al-Sammak said: The one who fears the evil of this world is greater than the evil we are in from it.

- Abdullah bin Omar passed by the two sons of Abdullah bin Al-Zubayr in Mina while she was raising barley.
