It transmits the sayings and actions of the Messenger Muhammad, peace and blessings of God be upon him, as the Companions narrated them. In a few cases, it transmits some of the sayings and actions of the Companions, following the Messenger Muhammad or emulating his guidance. Al-Nawawi said about his book: “I decided to compile a summary of the authentic hadiths and commit myself to mentioning only authentic hadiths from the clear ones, added to the well-known authentic books.” A number of contemporaries verified this and weakened some of the hadiths of Riyadh, including Sheikh Al-Albani and Al-Arna’ut, and they ruled 3% of the book weak. This result indicates that it has reached a high degree of validity, and the hadiths are distributed in nineteen (books) except for the introductions. The book includes several chapters, the number of which varies according to their subject matter, and the chapters are numbered sequentially from the beginning of the book to the end, totaling three hundred and seventy-two chapters. It is divided into 20 books.

Abu Zakaria Yahya bin Sharaf Al-Hazami Al-Nawawi Al-Shafi’i (631 AH - 1233 AD / 676 AH - 1277 AD), known as “Al-Nawawi,” is a Muslim hadith scholar, jurist, and linguist, and one of the most prominent Shafi’i jurists. He is famous for his many books and classifications in jurisprudence, hadith, language, and biographies, such as Riyadh Al-Salehin, Al-Arba’in Al-Nawawi, Minhaj Al-Talibeen, and Al-Rawdah. He is described as the editor of the Shafi’i school of thought, its refiner, its reviewer and its arranger, as the work among Shafi’i jurists has settled on what Al-Nawawi suggests is most likely. Al-Nawawi is called the Sheikh of the Shafi’is. If the word “two sheikhs” is used according to the Shafi’is, they mean Al-Nawawi and Abu Al-Qasim Al-Rafi’i Al-Qazwini.
