About this app

Fatou Diome was born in 1968 on the small island of Niodior, in the Saloum delta, in the Serer region of Senegal.

Fatou Diome is an illegitimate girl.
It was Aminata, her grandmother, who raised her.
Its name comes from Sine Saloum, where the Diom are Niominka.

Fatou Diome passionate about literature around the age of 13 years old and begins to write.

Fatou Diome leaves her village at the age of 14 to continue her studies in other cities of Senegal, while surviving odd jobs, works as a servant in The Gambia, and finishes her training by enrolling at the University of Dakar. .


At the age of twenty-two Fatou Diome fell in love with a Frenchman, thereafter she married the latter and decided to follow him to France precisely Strasbourg in 1994.

Fatou Diome Was Rejected by Her Husband's Family. she later and finds herself in great difficulty, abandoned to her sadness goes out on French territory. To be able to survive and finance her studies, Fatou Diome has to do housework for six years.


Fatou Diome teaches at the Marc-Bloch University of Strasbourg and at the Higher Institute
of education in Karlsruhe, in Germany after
have completed their studies in literature and philosophy at the University of Strasbourg.
