The progression of the hourly/monthly gross minimum wage in France since 2020.

To convert the gross monthly/hourly SMIC salary into a net monthly/hourly SMIC salary, social security contributions are deducted. The gross minimum wage therefore varies according to your employment contract or your collective agreement: from one payslip to another, the gross minimum wage will vary.

To calculate the amount of the annual minimum wage, multiply the monthly minimum wage by 12.

The monthly SMIC is most of the time communicated in gross value and not in net value. The conversion of the gross salary into net is done by deducting the amount of the employee contributions to which the employer contributes.

The monthly SMIC is only communicated as an indication for an employment contract with the legal duration of 35 hours per week. Below this, the reference salary is the hourly SMIC and not the monthly SMIC.

The hourly rate of the SMIC is defined each year by decree by the government. On the basis of a 35-hour weekly employment contract, the calculation of the minimum wage takes into account the indicative salary of the monthly gross minimum wage.
