What is an allegorical prayer,
A prayer dedicated to those who died in Korean Catholicism, that is, those in purgatory.
In terms of Catholic doctrine, prayer for all spirits is based on the doctrine of purgatory. This is because the year 煉禱, or memorial prayer, means a prayer offered to God by living Catholics for the soul of purgatory 煉獄. In Catholic doctrine, purgatory is a place in the world where those who have died without fulfilling the punishment of their sins purify their sins before entering heaven. The souls of purgatory cannot ascend to heaven or relieve pain by themselves. Therefore, we need the prayers of our earthly church members for the souls of purgatory who are suffering. In other words, it is necessary to have the great generation of the church members on earth for the souls of envy. Therefore, the memorial prayer offered for the souls of purgatory is the content of purification and salvation that the living prays for forgiveness and rest for the dead, and signifies the mutual opening between them. Thus, we can confirm the solidarity between the dead and the living through the year.
The memorial prayer consists of a few psalms (22, 113, 129, etc.), an adult title prayer (Litania), and a hymn. It can be offered on the back. Believers take turns to pray for the deceased and their families, and pray for memorial service, with as few as one or two, and as many as hundreds of people. The approximate form consists of a prayer and responsibility (refraining) that a person who prays is divided into tofu.
The memorial prayer is a confession of faith that clearly reveals the hope of resurrection suggested in the Catholic doctrine of “moving to a new life” (commissioning thanksgiving song 1) without seeing death as the end. The rhythms inherent in the memorial prayers are irregular and very long, but the melody is in a simple form that can be repeated by sending and receiving a pair of two teams through remission and resentment. This method is similar to the format of the sound of Seon Hu-chang's catfish and the sound received in Korean folk songs. The protoplasm of our music is melted in the prayer of the memorial. In summary, it can be said that the unfamiliar Catholic faith was combined with our folk song and reborn as a prayer for the dead. Therefore, it can be said that in the process of being rescued for nearly 200 years, the memorial prayers preserved our own sound while overcoming the wave of modernization. As a result, memorial prayer has become a valuable tradition of Korean Catholicism. In this respect, the year is evaluated as an example of inculturation.
