About this app

Mazoola is an app that gives parents digital superpowers to help navigate their child’s path to earning, learning, and developing essential money management skills. As the only COPPA* certified mobile family wallet, Mazoola’s walled garden offers parent’s much needed reassurance that their children can build life-lasting skills in a safe and secure environment. Mazoola anonymizes a child’s identity to ensure privacy while shopping with their favorite retailers online or in-store from their mobile device.

As a Parent I Can:
• Create child virtual debit cards and store them on a mobile device
• Create automatic allowance amounts
• Assign & track chores and the rewards for completing them
• Approve retailers, shopping categories, and spend limits
• Authorize, manage and monitor purchases from the parental dashboard
• Develop a lesson plan to teach children about setting goals, budgeting, and savings

As a Child I can:
• Use Apple Pay (users over 13)
• See my balance
• Set specific savings goals
• Manage my chores
• Shop online & in-store at my favorite retailers
• Make P2P payments to family and friends

Going digital is the new norm and so is digital marketing. Cookie placement, location-based advertising, behavioral targeting, and other clever marketing tactics regularly put children’s privacy at risk and violate the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). New banking solutions aimed at children and families have appeared – none have adequately addressed COPPA or privacy concerns.

Founded in 2008, Mazoola was built from the ground up – built by parents concerned about exposure of unregulated marketing, concerned that their child’s personal information would fall into the wrong hands. The Mazoola mission is simple: give kids the power of a mobile wallet, teach them about money management but power the solution with privacy to ensure they always remain safe. Because a child’s privacy matters.

*Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act:
U.S. federal law designed to prohibit the collection and use of personal information about children by the operators of Internet services and Web sites. Passed by the U.S. Congress in 1998, the law took effect in April 2000. It is administered and enforced by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

Absolutely horrible app. Nothing is logical or easy to figure out, like it should be. And customer support is almost non-existent. Please don't waste your time or money on this. I'm still trying to figure out how to get them to close my account and transfer my money back to my funding account.

5/2021 Good but not great. Most recently the app keeps crashing. I'd like to see biometrics used for login and the user interface is nice but sometimes it's difficult to navigate. Lastly it would be nice to incorporate NFC payments so my kids can use their device to pay at stores. Update 11/2021 Since the app redesign we all have had nothing but issues. We kept waiting for updates and even with the most recent update we still are having major issues. Can't wait any longer, time to move forward.

Thank you for your feedback. We'd appreciate it if you could send more details on the crash you have experienced to support@mazoola.co. We'd like to make sure we solve this for you. Regarding NFC, you can add your child's card manually to Google Pay on their device right now. We will be publishing a new version with a button to add it for you.

I like the concept and execution, but recently the app appears to have a few bugs. Namely one which prevents new accounts from registering.i recommended the app to a friend and he tried to sign up, but the app won't load past the final identity verification screen where you enter your date of birth and last 4 of your SSN (the loading circle graphic just spins endlessly). So his wife tried signing up with her own info on her own device but had the same exact outcome.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by our additional defenses against the widely reported Log4J vulnerability. While we do not use that particular tool, some of our vendors do, so we implemented extra security measures as a precaution. This may have prevented some recent users from being able to register. This issue has been resolved.
