Learn to play by ear and stop relying on chord charts. ChordX helps guitarists and other musicians practice recognizing chord progressions common in popular music. It turns the chore of everyday ear training into a dynamic and interactive game that will keep you engaged.

Would you like to pick up your guitar or ukulele and instantly start playing along to a song you're hearing for the first time in your life? With some practice, you can train your ear to identify chord changes in the music around you. This aural skill allows you to learn songs before you even pick up your instrument.

Developing a good musical ear can be a daunting task, but our app makes it easy to get started. You don't need to know music theory or have prior experience with ear training to benefit from using ChordX. Unlike many other ear training apps, ChordX is focused on a single exercise making it the perfect introduction to ear training. The exercise starts out extremely simple, and the app adjusts the difficulty as you go. The more advanced you are, the more challenging it becomes.

With ChordX, you will be listening to high-quality audio recordings of a real guitar played by a professional. We have created an audio library of chord voicings most used by guitarists, and we invite you to take full advantage of it! And to make it better still, we are working to create more sound libraries like this to help make your practice sessions more varied and effective.

ChordX allows you to customize your practice experience to make it as easy or as difficult as you want it to be. If you already possess good aural skills, you can push the difficulty to the extreme by adjusting payback tempo and the type of cadence. And if it's still too easy because you've got perfect pitch, no problem! Just hide the chord names to help you concentrate on the relationships between the sounds.

Your performance during practice is analyzed to provide you with detailed statistics that show you where you excel, and what to work on next. You can see exactly how good you are at identifying each of the chords, and what mistakes you make most often.

Not good for beginners. If you go to the 2 notes custom it just goes back and forth between the two. Doesn't repeat the same note twice. If you go to 3 notes it doesn't repeat the same note twice and you always have a 50/50 guess. You also have to do your own custom set up if you are a beginner. It is probably great for an advance user. Why would a beginner want to learn flats and 7th. This should start out with 1,4,5 and work in 6 minors. 2,3 and especially 7 should wait for more advanced users

Hi. We have just released an update that allows you to adjust this behavior and have the app repeat the same chord twice in a row. We start with 1, 5, 6, 7 instead of the usual 1, 4, 5 as we believe this approach has its advantages for beginners specifically. Feel free to drop us a line at contact@chordx.app if you'd like to discuss this in detail.

This app is amazing. As a guitarist who's wanting to learn to recognise chord progressions it's ideal. It uses regular chords that most songs would use but it switches it up by changing the voicing and key so you don't get too familiar with the 'sound clip' rather than the character of the chords. The difficulty is punishing but fair. The only thing I'd love would be a practice mode where you could freely tap on the chords to get an idea for different progressions yourself.

I am really excited that this app exists because I need to learn chord recognition and I have not seen an app for this in the past. However this just goes too fast for me. I get two chords right and it quickly goes to four chords and then I'm lost and it goes back to two chords. I wish there was a dummy mode where you could start with the real basics like recognizing a major from a minor chord and then throwing in sevenths. If I could do that first then I might be ready for this tougher mode.

Thank you for your feedback and sugguestions! Please, update the app to the latest version. We have just added a feature that allows you to freeze the current level anytime during the game. This way you can practice at the desired level indefinitely. We also continue to work on the custom levels feature, so stay tuned for future updates. Thank you!
