The Mercy's Group Band was founded by Rinto Harahap and his brother Erwin Parlindungan, and 3 of his friends Reynold Panggabean, Rizal Arsyad, and Iskandar alias Boen. This band was founded by a group of young people from an area in Medan, North Sumatra who have the same vision, to form a party band.

The band is under the leadership of Rizal Arsyad (Iis Sugianto's ex-husband), and Rinto is lined up to be the singer besides holding the bass guitar. This group always follows trends in foreign music developments, so they often refer to the bands The Beatles, The Bee Gees, The Hollys, C.C.R and Monkeys. Occasionally they also performed national band songs, such as Koes Plus with their hit Telaga Silent.

The name The Mercy's itself spontaneously popped up in their memories because they liked driving Mercy brand cars. If interpreted in French Mercy's means pity or it could be thank you.
They carry essential historical stories and memories that like to have fun, and are oriented towards party bands in Jakarta, such as Noor Bersaudara, Ceking, Cruss and Medinas.
