About this app

What’s new in this version of the app?

The 2023 version of Homo Faber app contains new features as well as improvements on existing functionalities of the previous version of the app.

New features
- Navigation icons and themes on the homepage. Users are now able to search for artisans, ateliers, manufacturers, museums and galleries according to themes depicted by a small icon on the homepage. This allows more precise, customised, playful and immediate browsing of Homo Faber Guide.
- New search engine that allows deeper searches by craft, material, objects, artisan or entity name, country or city location. This same search engine also allows more complex searches to be carried out, such as combinations of terms, eg silk France / Venice glass / weaving John
- Object catalogue: in the browsing menu there is an Object catalogue that allows users to search all objects that exist on the Guide. Objects are the creative works made by artisans present on the Guide.
- Dedicated works webpage: on each artisan profile page, the gallery of works is now a standalone webpage with its own URL. This allows easier sharing of individual objects between users.
- Engaging through itineraries: it is now possible for users to build their own itineraries. They can organise saved profiles into itineraries under themes or locations with list names. These itineraries can be found in My account.
- In-app inbox: the app now has an Inbox feature where users can receive short communications from Homo Faber about the Guide, such as new artisan publications on the Guide, seasonal themes, events, updates to certain parts of the Guide such as new ambassadors.
- My Account functionalities: in My Account, users now have access to the following functionalities:
-- They can set the language of the app to one of 15 languages. The app’s navigation is then in the chosen language.
-- They can Recommend an Artisan for Homo Faber Guide via a new webform
- New sections: in the Profile menu, users now have access to two sections called About the team and Jobs which exist on the desktop version but were not previously accessible on the app.

Improvements to user experience
- Map: the homepage of the app is now the map. If the user has granted access to their location, the app will be set to the user’s near-me view. If the user has not shared their location with the app, the map will display a generic map view. Having the map as the landing page allows more immediate searching of Homo Faber Guide, according to location – current, destination, curiosity.
- Carousel view: on the homepage, artisans, ateliers, manufacturers, museums and galleries are listed in a tile view. Each tile has three images related to the artisan or entity in a carousel display. This means the user can slide between these three images to discover the entity without clicking to view the whole profile. It allows more immediate understanding and discovery of each entity directly from the homepage view.
- Wishlist sorting: it is now possible for users to build their own wishlists and to sort them into themes with a list name. It was always possible to save favourites, but the development with this version of the app is that these favourites can be sorted and organised into themed lists.
- My Account functionalities: in My Account, users now have access to the following functionalities:
-- They can set notification permissions for email communications, in-app inbox communications and SMS communications.
-- They can delete their account from the app, or remove the data stored by the app.
