About this app

USB Media Explorer (UME), formerly known as Nexus Media Importer, allows you view photos (Jpeg and Raw), stream videos1, listen to music, and view documents from USB storage devices and cameras. Specialized screens for photos, videos, music, documents and file management. Copy files to and from the USB device. View full size photos and videos without importing!

Supported Devices:
- Flash/Pen Drives
- Card Readers
- Hard Drives2
- Cameras3
- Other Android devices4
- MTP/UMS audio players5
- Some DVD drives6

Additional Hardware Requirements:
- Connecting most devices will require a microUSB OTG cable or USB C to USB adapter. These are available from most major retail websites.

Notes:
1. Video and audio formats not natively supported by Android (AVI, Dolby, DTS, WMV) may require a third party player like VLC.
2. Hard drives require considerable power and may require an external power source, like a powered USB hub.
3. Only cameras with storage are supported. Live image devices like endoscopes and webcams are not supported.
4. To access another Android device, put the target device in MTP/File Transfer Mode.
5. Most “i” devices use a proprietary protocol. These are NOT supported.
6. Only DVD drives that support AV Connect mode or similar are supported. See your DVD drive manual. Commercial DVDs are not supported.

Support:
- If you have an issue, you can tap "Homesoft" from the About screen for email support. I read and reply to reviews, but due to their one way nature, it’s difficult to resolve issues. If you have a support request, please include the Android device you are using, the USB device you are trying to use and a description of the problem.

I totally appreciate what this app can do for my Pixel 6. I have small issues where 1) the app can't differentiate between photos/ videos on the photo roll and in the rubbish bin. 2) Takes a wee while to load photo/video content from the phone and as more load the thumbnail doesn't stay in the same spot. The UI is very 8 bit retro vines, Kind of love it.

Trash photos should be filtered in the Photos view. In files view, everything is displayed. The jumping is for a couple of reasons. UME doesn't use the Android Media Store so it has to parse them each time. The other reason is the sort order. They technically don't move, just other photos jump in between them.

Was once a 5 star app I've used for years that was brilliant. For me it doesn't deserve one star now. I couldn't really use it. UPDATE. Dustin tried to fix the problems but only succeeded fixing one (the search button) must say Dustin is trying to fix the problems. Tracks missing from albums, some with only one or 2 tracks or none at all. Open the folders and it mixes them up!?

Yes, search has been replaced with the filter button to provide consistency throughout the app. Sorry for the confusion. Duplicate titles are consolidated in the detail view, but are still counted in the summary. The issue with untagged items being dropped will be fixed shortly.

Updated, the develop seems to be planning to resolve some of the issues mentioned in my previous review. However, I should not have relied on this app for important work-related files or use it with large quantities of files, due to the lack of separation of Favorites into a new folder, and the glitchiness of the app in general. Created much more work for me when I purchased it to make life easier...
