Hong Kong began to set up outdoor fitness facilities suitable for the elderly in 2002. Since 2016, in order to align with the vision of living-aging urban development and strengthen supporting facilities for home-based elderly care, the Hong Kong government has stepped up its efforts to set up more outdoor fitness facilities in various regions. Local research shows that these facilities provide a unique platform for elders with different physical conditions to maintain regular exercise habits in the community and promote physical and mental health.
In the community, some elders already know how to make good use of outdoor fitness facilities to help them maintain regular exercise habits. There are also some elders who do not know these fitness facilities and do not know how to use them safely and effectively. In view of this, the expert team from the Department of Rehabilitation Science of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University has compiled a more detailed introduction for each outdoor fitness facility, adding a rehabilitation science perspective to each sports equipment to remind users how to use it safely and effectively. These facilities have also added a "Tips for Caregivers" section. We hope that caregivers will remind the elderly when taking care of them to use the facilities and observe whether the elderly's exercise postures and usage methods are correct, so as to improve the use of exercise equipment. safety and effectiveness.
We hope that the content of the app can help the elderly use facilities safely and effectively, increase their daily activities, improve their ability to take care of themselves and improve their quality of life.
