Instead of equipping the Pixel 8 Pro with a useful feature like an IR blaster, LiDAR scanner, or bringing back the always accurate and well-positioned rear fingerprint sensor, Google decided instead to throw in this utterly useless temperature sensor. The sensor isn't even certified to do temporal artery temperature scans, which might actually be useful to some. Any $15 thermometer from the pharmacy can do that.

Three stars because it seems to work, but the interface is not good. It'd be considerably better if it integrated the camera to help you figure out where you're pointing the thermometer and whether you're close enough to the target. With the Tensor CPU, it'd even be possible for the camera to detect objects and automatically set/suggest material types for them.

Would like a "tap to start measuring" for a continuous reading along with a min/max. It works ok on hobby electronics projects, but it's cumbersome to keep tapping while hunting for hot spots. It's like the hardware and app were specifically designed in 2021 for single readings on a much larger and more uniform surface... like a human forehead...
