The Bible (or Scripture; from the Greek root: τὰ βιβλία, evil biblía, "book") is a term used to refer to the sacred texts of many different beliefs, but usually from religions originating from Abraham. The Greek word "Bible" is βιβλια (biblia), meaning "book", which is derived from βυβλος (byblos) meaning "papyrus", from the name of the city of Byblos of Phenicie. (Ancient Phenicia), the place where papyrus was exported.

The Jews refer to their Bible as Tanakh, consisting of 24 volumes, divided into 3 parts: The Law of the Covenant (Torah), the Prophetic Book (Nevi'im) and the Literature Book (Ketuvim).

The Christian Bible consists of the Old Testament (meaning "Old Covenant") and New Testament (meaning "New Covenant"). The Old Testament is a succession from Tanakh, divided into groups of books: The Pentateuch, History, Prophet, and Instruction; and the New Testament is texts written by the followers of Jesus (and their heirs) with content related to his life. The New Testament consists of 27 volumes, fixed in the 4th century and accepted by most Christian churches. These include the Gospel, the Acts of the Apostles, the letters of Paul, the letters of the other apostles and the book of Revelation.
