Isabella Maria Gioia

I have had many passions in my life, the main one was Astrophysics. I graduated in Physics and specialized in Astrophysics. I studied various celestial objects, mainly galaxies, their emission mechanisms, the clusters of galaxies that make up the building blocks of the Universe, and the origin of the Universe itself. I grew up at the Istituto di Radioastronomia di Bologna using the radio telescope of Medicina. I then worked at X-ray wavelength analyzing the data taken by satellites for scientific missions. I followed my passion by observing the skies at various telescopes around the world from the peaks of the Andes in Chile to the summit of Mauna Kea in Hawai'i (the 4000m high White Mountain). I explored celestial objects through the large radio telescope in New Mexico (Very Large Array), and also visited the now destroyed radio telescope of Arecibo in Puerto Rico.
My other passions? Photography and travel. The latter two are clearly linked, I have visited over 100 countries in the world and have taken thousands of photos. Over the course of decades and across oceans, I have gone from camera rolls to digital and over time I have refined my techniques. While the traveler in me was stopped as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the inner photographer took her place. In the last few months I have focused my lens on the beautiful city that I have called home all these years: Bologna. I leave this site as a legacy to the lovers of life! To those like me who can't stop at nothing, because they are driven by a spirit of exploration continuously supported by their curiosity.
