About this app

DUILIO CARPITELLA was born in Trapani in 1957. After some youthful competitive success in pole vaulting, in 1974 he enrolled in the Faculty of Architecture in Rome and cultivated painting and research on methods of Equidecomposition between Geometric Figures. After graduating, he opened the IN-CHIOSTRO Studio and dealt with graphics and illustration. He took part in the group exhibition "Escheriana" (Rome - 1987) in homage to Maurits Cornelis Escher. On this occasion he exhibited some of his studies on Equidecomposition and came into contact with Prof. Michele Emmer, an internationally renowned mathematical popularizer, who involved him in the traveling exhibition "HORUS' EYE - Itineraries in the Mathematical Imagery" (Bologna, Milan, Parma, Rome - 1989/90), organized by the Institute of the Italian Encyclopedia (Treccani), in which Duilio exhibits some of his works. He is then summoned by the Polo Ceramico Agency of Faenza which proposes to renew the artisan ceramic tradition of Faenza by selecting 16 artists of various geographical origins that he associates with as many workshops. Everything converges in the exhibition "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" (Faenza - 1990) held at the International Museum of Ceramics, where Duilio's works are still preserved. A contact is born with the American scholar Greg N. Frederickson who collects experiences from all over the world, in the Geometric Equidecomposition sector. Duilio participates with his studies on polyhedrons and the collection is published in 1997 by Cambridge University Press with the title “Dissections – Plane & Fancy". In the meantime Duilio was appointed teacher of Drawing and History of Art at the State High Schools. The meeting with the pun expert Ennio Peres led him to participate in the Archimede Prize, a competition for game inventors. Duilio, after a nomination with the topological game "Schizoedro n° 1", wins the 1st absolute prize ex-aequo with "Gnomons", a strategic board game. Subsequently Gnomoni is marketed under the name of "San Gimignano" by the PIATNIK publisher of Vienna and obtains important international awards; his image appears on the covers of well-known specialized magazines: SPIELBOX and WIN.Duilio publishes with BookSprint editions his short stories "Little nocturnal raid (without loot) in the blind spot" (2020), "Extemporary manual of restless geometry" (a text narrative-fantasy but also a manual of Dissectative Geometry (2020)), "Total eclipse on an inverse scenario" (a narrative-fantasy text and at the same time a didactic handbook on an advanced topic of Descriptive Geometry: the "Inverse Perspective" (2021)) and “Evoluzioni rashe d'un compasso maniaso” (a narrative-fantasy notebook that deals with the theme of the Geometry of Architecture from the point of view of the 'psychology of design' (2022)). Finally, Duilio publishes with AbraBooks the connection in a unitary narrative text of the four previous volumes: "Alternate drifts beyond the horizon" (2022).
