The bullfinch has the scientific name of Sporophila angolensis. It belongs to the Thraupidae family and in English is known as Chestnut-bellied Seed-Finch. This bird is also known as avineyard and porridge rice.
There are close relatives of our bullfinch in Nigeria and California, but they differ from ours in plumage and song.
The name curió, in the Tupi Guarani language, means “Friend of Man”, as this bird liked to live near the village of the Indians. Currently, bullfinch breeding is great due to its beautiful song.
