The story centers on the tragic and vivid fate of Minamoto Yoshitsune, one of the war heroes of the Taira and Minamoto feudal houses in the 80s of the 12th century.
In the preface to the novel written by Strugatsky, a Russian reader who has never heard of Yoshitsune's exploits, the background of the events in the Japanese knightly novel of the 14th-15th centuries and the role of the hero of the novel in the history of Japan are explained. After each chapter, we have placed Strugatsky's comments explaining incomprehensible terms.
