About this app

As funeral homes across America post obituaries to their respective funeral home website, The Obituary App organizes them all into particular cities. Now, a user can look at all the obituaries posted by multiple funeral homes in one place.

There are two obituary feeds within The Obituary App. Users can save multiple cities in either feed in the menu section labeled “Manage Cities”. Users must follow at least one city in a feed to populate obituaries.

We encourage larger towns to be placed in a user’s “Focused” feed. Here users will see only obituaries from funeral homes in that city or deaths that have taken place in that city.

We encourage users to place smaller cities in their “Relevant” feed. In this case, if an obituary mentions that town, the obituary will be in the “Relevant” feed. For example, if a descendant was born in XYZ city, or got married in XYZ city, or formerly lived in XYZ city, has relatives living in XYZ city, that obituary will show up in a user's feed if they follow XYZ city.

A feed consists of Obituary cards, similar to a drivers license; An obit card consists of the decedent's name, photo and age (if available), the city in which the death took place, and multiple functions for the user. A user can express condolences, send flowers through the funeral home website, view the full obituary, share through email or social media, save to one's own personal memory wall, indicate an intention of attending the funeral or memorial service, or report the obituary for misinformation.

Users may claim an obituary we post and become the administrator. Being the administrator, our product now allows other users to make comments or share photos. The administrator can allow or reject the submissions from other users.

A huge historical database of who died “On This Day” is available in the menu for interesting reading.

Obituaries are a way that families summarize the life of a loved one or try to put it into words. The obituary provides an awareness of a day, time and place that a funeral or memorial service might take place.

Through our app, the community of family, friends, business relationships and acquaintances can engage and be there for people in an often difficult time.

This app sucks! If I don't know the date they died or the Funeral home name I can't look up the person. I only have the person's name and city that should be enough.

Nice but... My sister just passed away on December 14, 2022. I selected her town but she wasn't listed and her obituary was in all the local papers, including other of my listed cities. This app needs a very current update to be worth its salt! Perhaps the reason she wasn't listed is because the app's last update was November 29, 2022. My sister died in December, 2022.

Just helped my family create an obituary for Grandma Mary. This app made it surprisingly easy especially with their auto-fill for basic info. Saved a ton of time (and tears!) We even found some inspiration from other obituaries on the app while writing hers. Definitely recommend.
