This book has been circulating in the hands of students for quite some time and has not been reprinted for quite some time. Maybe for that reason this book was hijacked by another author, several chapters, directly copied and pasted into his book. Apart from that, I still receive many questions about where this book can be purchased. For these two reasons, this book was reprinted and revised at the same time.

I wrote this theory book with a relaxed speaking style with my thesis writing supervisor, Prof. Dr. Zuchridin Suryawinata. He is the source of my love for the world of translation and writing. He also guided me into the world of translation. My inspiration is now gone, but the love and enthusiasm for writing and translating that he planted in my heart has never died out. However, his departure made me responsible for the revision of this book.

With respect for him, in this revised edition I corrected Chapter I regarding modern tools for translation. The link list is updated and new sources of information are added. In the same chapter, a discussion of machine translation and CAT Tool (computer-assisted translation tool) is added. Apart from that, the discussion about Newmark's theory (1981, 1988) is clarified by perfecting the diagram and completing the explanation.

In Chapter IV, pragmatic strategies are added. This translation strategy that considers the text as a whole is considered important to understand so that translators do not get caught up in the debate over literal translation versus free translation only. Translation strategy here is equivalent to procedure, not in the sense that it is equivalent to a general approach to translating a text. Meanwhile, the chapter on translation research was deleted because it is not directly related to the title of this book and will be discussed in more detail in another book.


Hopefully the material content of this application can be useful for self-introspection and better improvement in everyday life.
