This book, Discourse on the Philosophy of Western and Islamic Education, attempts to map in more detail and comprehensively the important themes of philosophy, both from the West and those originating from Islamic traditions, and then contextualize them in education. Because it was born from a collection of papers, of course the contents of this book have experienced good academic dialectics, because the authors are selected doctoral candidates, in other words, they are scholarship recipients from the Indonesian Ministry of Religion.

As a course instructor, of course I feel proud to see the efforts of students who have succeeded in producing very diverse papers on this philosophical theme. Second pride, here I was entrusted to deliver books that the students and I had discussed during one semester of lectures.

This book is a sign of the existence of students who received the 2016 MORA scholarship at the Islamic University of Malang (UNISMA). With the existing work, the students want to convey their struggles in trying to harmonize what is ideal and what is real in the world of education based on Western and Islamic Educational Philosophy. It's not easy indeed. I positively appreciate what has been done. Considering that this is a work that is before the reader, it must have been preceded by hard work and a number of long, tiring discussions.

Apart from being able to be used as a course reference, considering that the themes are based on lecture material, this book is also interesting to criticize from various perspectives. Especially from the perspective of philosophy itself. The presence of this book is a climax point, because it has succeeded in publishing thoughts through a work, and this is not easy work. Because it is definitely accompanied by adjustments and equalization of perceptions of various different characteristics.


Hopefully the material content of this application can be useful for self-introspection and better improvement in everyday life.
