This book is entitled Local Wisdom: Malay Intelligence in Literary Works because the contributors to this book have used creative works, namely traditional and modern Malay literary works, as well as dramas and films as sources for researching the local wisdom of the Malay people.

In other words, the results of creative works have been selected as study data by a number of reviewers, experts and intellectuals who are interested in this local wisdom to be explored to explore the intelligence of the Malay people stored therein. It is hoped that their writing can further expand the meaning of local wisdom as an epistemology of local science which is capable of giving birth to new knowledge to be preserved so that it can be inherited by future generations, and can also be introduced to international communities outside the Malay natural environment.

In fact, the production of books that record the local wisdom of the people of the archipelago, especially the Malay people, is seen as truly meaningful, especially if the contributors try to produce new knowledge that originates from the wisdom of past communities to strengthen this field of knowledge and to dispel local wisdom. The communities in this region have disappeared because of time or simply been buried.

The knowledge of local wisdom collected in this book is the result of research and writings by contributors in various scientific disciplines which are then grouped into several areas such as history, literature, education, village communities, village medicine, traditional medicine, spirituality, the arts of construction, shipping and commerce, management of traditional Malay customs, water, wilderness and agriculture.

This book specifically discusses topics in the field of literature, but the discourse touches on various aspects such as the Malays' skill in administering city states and nations, trade, establishing diplomatic relations at local, regional and international levels, skill in creating weapons, the nature of wisdom in preaching, subtlety of mind. in expressing affection, the ability to generate creative and nuanced ideas, as well as wisdom in resolving conflicts.

The traditional Malay literary texts chosen by the contributors are seen to have recorded Malay wisdom on these matters since ancient times, and later have been included in modern literary texts, television dramas and also contemporary films.
