The Prophet Muhammad SAW, is believed by Muslims to be the Ummi Prophet. The Arabic words which are often interpreted as not being able to read and write apparently have various interpretations. Some circles still insist that the Prophet Muhammad could not read and write; because it is proof of the preservation of the authenticity of the Koran as the word of Allah. Meanwhile, there are also groups who believe that the Prophet Muhammad could actually read and write. According to this second group, the view that the Prophet could not read and write was precisely because of a misinterpretation of the word ummi; which means “unlearned” or “untaught”.

This book discusses the true meaning of the ummi concept further. This Divine School is even accompanied by historical arguments whose truth is difficult to refute. The author, Muthahhari, is indeed a traditional Islamic scholar who truly understands classical sources relating to the life of the Prophet Muhammad. This book has its own charm and is worth reading because it is written by a very authoritative author.
