This book tries to portray various sides of the internet, both positive and negative in the cyber world. There are three meanings that appear in the Big Indonesian Dictionary: (1) computer and information systems; (2) cyberspace; (3) related to the internet. However, the second and third meanings are relevant to this book. This book also displays the phenomenon of cyber Islam in Indonesia, which may not be completely the same as the phenomenon of cyber Islam in other parts of the world, including the Middle East.

The typology and expression of cyber Islam in Indonesia also shows the uniqueness of Indonesian cyberspace. In the Indonesian context, cyber Islam is defined as Islam in cyberspace using multiplatforms (social media, websites and mobile applications) to be discussed, expressed, criticized, debated, understood, studied and informed to a wider audience.

However, the main focus of this book is related to identity, ideology and discourse battles that occur in online media and social media. This book also reveals that cyberspace identities are always connected to ideologies in the real world. The discourse battles that occur in cyberspace are also related to battles in the real world. Cyberspace has become a kind of expanding area of ​​discourse battle, the ultimate aim of which is to project the future of Indonesian Islam.

Everything that happens in cyberspace, which is the focus of this research, cannot be separated from the development of information technology, especially online media and social media. The development of cyber technology forces all aspects of life to adapt to it. The existence of a person or group is no longer only determined by their work in the real world, but also in the virtual world. Finally, everyone is competing to show off and even make themselves stand out in cyberspace. This is where the war of existence occurs which in some cases is related to ideological contestation, which often results in open conflict and friction in the real world.
