With advances in technology and science, almost no society is free from the influence of globalization, including Islamic boarding schools which act as religious educational institutions, producing religious generations and becoming social service institutions (da'wah). Avoiding the free market will make an Islamic boarding school isolated and increasingly left behind by current developments. This is where the market collides with the hegemony it has to intersect with the existence of Islamic boarding schools.

Islamic boarding school is a "candradimuka crater" to produce national cadres who are virtuous and moral, and always obey the commands of Allah SWT, so that the students are expected to always consider the pros and cons of the actions they will carry out.

An Islamic boarding school is basically a traditional Islamic educational dormitory where students live together and study under the guidance of one (or more) teachers who are better known as "Kyai". There is a hut, mosque, santri, learning classical Islamic books and the presence of kyai are the five basic elements of the pesantren tradition.

How Islamic boarding schools can still survive with the 'modern market' which is widespread and spreads to almost all regions in Indonesia is an important point of this study. Starting from data from the Department of Industry and Trade and Energy and Mineral Resources of Jember Regency from 2006 to 2011 regarding the number of franchises established and licensed in Jember, it is stated that there is always an annual increase in the development of franchises in Jember Regency. If in 2006 there were only 2 franchises, in 2007 there were 3 franchises present.

Furthermore, in 2008 it increased to 7 franchises. In 2009, it almost doubled from the previous year, namely 12 franchises. In 2010, it grew even more rapidly to 16 franchises that received permits. It was only in 2011 that there was a tremendous surge for Jember when it received 35 PTs and CVs as franchises that had obtained permits to establish.

The market itself is actually an area where goods are bought and sold with more than one seller, whether referred to as a shopping center, traditional market, shop, mall, plaza, trade center or other names. For some groups, especially sellers, the market becomes a "field" for doing business to gain profits and a place for some people to fulfill their basic needs in life. So a strategy is needed for an Islamic boarding school to face this modernity.
