Melting icebergs, floods, landslides, powerful storms, increasing deforestation, rising temperatures, the list never ends. Are various variations in the Earth's climate normal or are these changes created by humans? What about those of us who live in rich countries who consume excessively, while hunger and poverty occur in other parts of the world?

How should we address the problems of poverty, hunger, inequality, reduced biodiversity, etc.? Although we live in a knowledge society and the information age, the questions that come to the surface are numerous and the answers are far from clear.

A variety of environmental subjects and training have been part of formal education since the 1960s, but this is certainly not enough. Social changes and new perspectives have guided the formulation of the UN ten-year plan, 2005 – 2014, namely Education for Sustainable Development.

The aim of this publication is to present WWF Sweden's views on the role of education in achieving a sustainable society. Some of the target groups we have in mind are school officers/staff and teachers.


Hopefully the material content of this application can be useful for self-introspection and better improvement in everyday life.
