The club is twice champion in intercontinental football tournaments of great historical importance (1953 and 1957). In 1953, Vasco won the Torneio Octogonal Rivadávia Corrêa Meyer, an official CBD competition, organized with the support of FIFA director Ottorino Barassi, a successor competition to the Copa Rio Internacional, treated in Europe as an edition of the Copa Rio and sought after by the 4 great clubs in Rio.
