The Book of Ihya Ulumuddin is a legendary book by Imam Ghazali which is very famous and has been widely used in various parts of the world. This book is also used as a reference for Islamic jurisprudence scholars in creating standards for Islamic jurisprudence. Meanwhile, by Sufi scholars, this book is used as a guide whose material should not be abandoned. This book contains two elements, namely fiqh and Sufism, so that it discusses clearly various issues from various sciences, especially in more depth regarding the science of Sufism.

Initially, the copying of this book was done by makhtutoh (handwriting), namely Al-Ihya' which was made in approximately 120 handwritings which were then archived in famous libraries around the world, such as the Al-Azhar library, Istanbul Turkey, Tehran, Darul Pole Egypt, Paris, etc. After the printing era began to develop, the Ihya manuscript was finally published and reproduced so that it could spread throughout Muslim countries, including Indonesia.

In general, the overall contents of the book Ihya Ulumudin cover three main aspects of religious knowledge, namely Sharia Science, Tariqat Science, and Haqiqat Science. Imam Ghazali as the author has also connected these three aspects into one reasoning that is easy for readers to understand and learn. As-Sayyid Abdullah Al-Aydrus concluded that whoever wants to attain these three sciences (Sharia Science, Tariqat Science, and Haqiqat Science), then it is enough for him to study the book Ihya Ulumuddin.

Imam Zainuddin, one of the Iraqi clerics, gave the perception that this book is one of the greatest Islamic books in explaining halal and haram. He also added that this book also discusses clearly the issue of zahir law, as well as uncovering secrets that are very deep in understanding.

The translation of this book was originally collected in 8 thick volumes, which we have now rearranged according to the arrangement of the Arabic volumes which have the same name as the title of this book, namely "Ihya' Ulumiddin". This book is Imam Ghazali's greatest work, which is very important for Muslim readers, especially in this era.

It is divided into 4 parts: Ibadat, Mu'amalat, Munakahat and Jinayat, and each topic is discussed and explained academically and logically, with examples, really interesting examples, followed by scientific and philosophical interpretations. The approach used by Imam Ghazali is truly impressive, and will touch the soul of every reader.
