About this app

The History of Demak Kingdom Application is an Indonesian Free Book application that contains a summary of the history of the Demak Kingdom theory. The Demak Sultanate or Demak Kingdom was the first and largest Islamic kingdom on the north coast of Java ("Pasisir"). According to Javanese tradition, Demak was previously a duchy of the Majapahit kingdom, then emerged as a new power inheriting legitimacy from Majapahit's greatness.

This kingdom was noted to be the pioneer of the spread of Islam in Java and Indonesia in general, although it did not live long and immediately experienced a setback due to a struggle for power among royal relatives. In 1560, Demak power shifted to Pajang Kingdom which was founded by Jaka Tingkir / Hadiwijaya. One of the historical remains of Demak is the Great Mosque of Demak, which according to tradition was founded by Wali Songo.

The location of the Demak palace, which at that time was by the sea, was in the village of Bintara (pronounced "Bintoro" in Javanese), is now part of the city of Demak in Central Java. The term kingdom in the period when thousands of cities were there was known as Demak Bintara. At the time of the 4th king (Sunan Prawoto), the palace was moved to Prawata (pronounced "Prawoto") and for this period the kingdom was called Demak Prawata. After the death of Sunan Prawoto, Arya Penangsang commanded this weak sultanate from the Jipang Kadipaten (now near Cepu). Kotaraja Demak was moved to Jipang and for this period it is known as Demak Jipang.
